Greetings to Mayo employees and their families in Jacksonville, FL and surrounding areas. Please share your favorite restaurants, eateries, coffee shops, etc. that new employees and their families can enjoy in the Jacksonville area. If you are new to the Jacksonville area, tell us what you like to eat. There may be someone who will know exactly where you can satisfy your craving for the food you love!

If you love pizza, you have to stop by Picasso's - they have very unique pizzas. (Hint: ask for the special, separate pizza menu). It is a little far from Mayo Clinic (about 30 to 40 minutes), but I don't think you will be disappointed. http://jaxpicassos.com/

Some of the best shrimp I've ever had were at O'Steen's in St. Augustine. There are a number of restaurants in that area with the same shrimp recipe, offered by former chefs from O'Steen's. Delicious!

If you are looking for a nice dinner, I'm a big fan of Doro- it is a small restaurant in Neptune Beach (at the Beaches Town Center Area). Palm Valley Fish Camp is also another one of our favorite spots as is Caps on the Water (off A1A between Ponte Vedra and Saint Augustine).

If you like seafood, look up Safe Harbor 🙂 fantastic food all fresh and delicious! There are two locations (Mayport & beach blvd)
Another great place is Ellen's Kitchen if you enjoy some good breakfast, it is located on 3rd street, right on the beach. I enjoy having breakfast and then going on a walk on the beach after 🙂
If you have some cravings for fried chicken and waffles or strawberry butter (yum) try metro diner (there are 3 locations in Jacksonville)
If you want Italian, Nini's pizza on Penman Rd is also delicious.

I have only been in Jacksonville for a couple of months and now blessed with an opportunity to work for Mayo. I am vegan but my SO is not. He will eat what I cook without complaint but when we go out, sometimes it is a struggle to find places with vegan options. If anyone knows of any places that we can both enjoy (or even primarily vegan!) please let me know! I do belong to several vegan fb pages too! 🙂

Please let me know what great vegan places you find in Jacksonville. My 14 year old daughter is vegetarian, sometimes vegan... it's likely we will visit there sometime this year... We started a list in Phoenix

A really great place locally with several stores is Zoe’s Kitchen! They have several already vegan dishes and several vegetarian that can be made vegan. I am fortunate to have one just 1.5 miles from me!

Have you been to House of Leaf and Bean yet? It is on Beach and San Pablo, super close to campus! They make their own tofu and are primarily vegan but have some non vegan items also. https://www.houseofleafnbean.com/

My favorite restaurants in the Jacksonville/Beaches area: (1) Valley Smoke - BBQ restaurant that sits on the water and (2) Palm Valley Fish Camp - seafood restaurant. Closer to campus, Safe Harbor Seafood and Taco Lu!
