Whether you are caring for an adult child with special needs or a senior member of the family who needs extra help, the demands of caregiving can seem insurmountable.  For Mayo Clinic employees, there are resources available that can help you carry the load.

Leave of Absence

If you need to take time off to care for an immediate family member (including your parents) your job is protected.  Check out the policy (on the Mayo Clinic intranet) for more information.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Not only is the EAP is a great resource when you need someone to talk to about the stress of caregiving but they can also provide some great community and caregiver resources. Visit HR Connect on the Mayo Clinic intranet and search for keyword "EAP" to find the appropriate resource for your campus.

Back-Up Caregivers

Through our child care partners, Mayo Clinic can provide subsidized back-up care so that  you can come to work when the regular caregiver is unexpectedly unavailable.  For more information, go to HR Connect on the Mayo Clinic intranet and search on keyword "backup".

The caregiver role can seem like a lonely place.  Plan today to use the resources that are available to get you through and be proud that you are doing the right thing.

A child who is determined to be disabled by the Social Security Administration can continue coverage indefinitely. For details, please call the HR Connect Service Center at 1-888-266-0440. Thanks,
