Did you know more than one third (37 percent) of employed caregivers consider their caregiving situation to be highly stressful emotionally? And almost 40 million Americans have provided unpaid care to an adult in the prior year (AARP & NAC, 2015).

Mayo Clinic offers in-home Back Up Care through Bright Horizons 24/7-365 days a year if you need to go to work and your loved one needs temporary in-home assistance. Care can be provided in your home or in your loved one’s home.  The Bright Horizons network is nationwide so a caregiver may be available for your loved one living in another city.  Call 877-BH-CARES (242-2737) to inquire.

You are eligible for this benefit if you are a Mayo Clinic Rochester, Arizona, or Florida benefits-eligible employee and you may utilize this benefit when you would miss work to care for your loved one.

Adults of any age are eligible for in-home Back Up care if they are:

  • Your spouse
  • Your adult child
  • Your sister or brother
  • Your parent or parent-in-law

NOT eligible:

  • Your grandparent
  • Your grandchild unless you are the legal guardian

Possible uses of Back Up Care for adults:

  • Your adult child is away at college and had dental surgery
  • Your mother-in-law lives out-of-state and needs assistance after a hospitalization
  • Your spouse suffered a concussion and your doctor advised someone to stay with them for 24 hours
  • Your daughter and her newborn returned home from the hospital
  • Your adult child with a disability has a sore throat and cannot go to their usual care center

Possible uses of Back Up Care for dependent children:

  • Your spouse normally cares for the kids but has jury duty or medical appointments and you are scheduled to work
  • Your state’s teachers announced a walk-out
  • Your nanny just gave notice
  • Your child has pink eye
  • You are a new parent returning to work with a gap of one week before regular child care is available

Use Back Up Care when traveling on business:

  • If a Bright Horizons caregiver is available at your destination, care can be provided at your hotel. Or you may use a Bright Horizons center/contracted center for your child at your destination city.
  • Care can be provided in your home or care recipient’s home if you are away on business and have a responsible adult to receive the Bright Horizons caregiver.

To avoid delays when care is needed on short notice, pre-register your qualified family members today.

Rochester, Arizona, and Florida have wonderful benefits. In an organization where we are striving for blended benefits it would be wonderful if MCHS had these benefits. Just putting in a request for these and many more 🙂
