Physician Engagement Group (PEGs)

By nicoleblock, @nicolerawlings
Collegiality and creating connections with one's peers are critical components of physician satisfaction and well-being. Increased clinical and administrative demands in healthcare can make creating these connections more challenging. Physician Engagement Groups (PEGs) are designed to cultivate these vital connections by encouraging colleagues to gather for a complimentary meal and conversation around their physician experience.

When participating in Physician/Scientist Engagement Groups:

  • Physicians can form their own group with colleagues or be assigned to a group.
  • Meet for a meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) at a restaurant of your choosing ($20 per person per meal limit) approximately every 2 weeks. Groups will consist of 6-10 physician or scientist staff members (AC, SAC, or Consultant; participation is not available to non-physicians/scientists or supplemental consultants at this time).
  • Meet approximately once a month or every 2 weeks. It is understood that participants may not be able to attend every meeting. Groups can meet for up to 12 meetings, after which they can decide if they wish to continue meeting. Discussions should be considered confidential within each group.
  • Each group will designate a group leader. Each group leader will receive a brief list of discussion topics to guide their conversation around the physician experience. The first 15 minutes of each meeting will be dedicated to the discussion of at least one of these topics.
  • Meal expenses are paid from institutional accounts (not from physician/scientist travel or dues accounts) using the travel card of one group member. Reimbursement details will be provided in an email following registration. As a reminder, the Mayo policy on business meals will apply to meal expenses.
To register a new group

  1. The group leader will need to register all group members at the time of registration.
  2. Once registered, an email will be sent to the group leader with details regarding charging meal expenses, curriculum, and other general information.

To re-register an existing group

  1. Re-register the group with any additions or deletions to membership. The group will have the option of designating a new leader at the time of registration.
  2. Once re-registered, an email will be sent to the group leader with details regarding charging meal expenses, curriculum, and other general information.

To register as an individual:

  1. When registering as an individual you will be placed in a group of other individual participants.
  2. Once there are enough participants registered as individuals to form a group, an email will be sent introducing the group members’ along with details regarding charging meal expenses, curriculum, and other general information.
