To All Who Have Questions about Mayo and Surrounding communities
Whether you are brand new to Mayo Clinic, or just always wondered about something, or maybe you have some great tidbits to share for anyone just getting to know the area, you are most welcome here. I am Barb Rechtzigel, and I work in Employee Learning and Development. In addition to offering employee training and self-improvement classes, I also coordinate Mayo Clinic Orientation sessions for those joining us in Rochester and in the greater SE Minnesota area. This group is designed to help anyone who has questions about Mayo Clinic in particular and Rochester in general. We are here to help!
Feel free to introduce yourself and let's get the conversation started!

Hi Barb. We moved here from the Chicago area in late 2015. We LOVE this area and Rochester. We spend many weekends traveling to the nearby small towns and have found that each one has its own personality and culture. Many of them have live theater, fairs and various celebrations throughout the year. It's especially fun to drive through the little communities along the Mississippi, even into Wisconsin and Iowa. We have also made it a point to visit different restaurants in Rochester to support the local merchants. There is so much to see and do here for a city the size of Rochester, and it's been fun to explore. There is a newcomers group in town, as well, and they have very informal coffees and lunch and dinner meetings. If anyone would like any more information, I'd be happy to make some suggestions!
Well, we went to Lanesboro over the Labor Day weekend and enjoyed a delightful day walking around town, visiting the waterfall, watching the kids tubing in the Root River, driving around checking out the homes and many B&Bs, and finally having a wonderful lunch at the dog-friendly Restaurant on the Root. Lanesboro has live theater, as well!
I would like to know more about the newcomers group. Are they on Facebook?
I found Rochester Greeters really helpful when I first moved here! She met me at a local coffee shop and discussed all the things I would enjoy about living in Rochester, she also took time to get to know me and then suggest specific groups or activities I might enjoy. As an additional bonus, I was given a packet with maps, coupons, community information, etc.! It was great and I highly recommend checking them out at RochesterGreeters.com.
