Seattle/Vancouver

Planning to travel to Seattle and possibly Vancouver this summer with the family. Looking for advice on "must see" attractions and fun things to do for our trip. Will likely be flying out and renting a car from Seattle

How many days are you planning to be in the area? Happy to recommend some activities when you let me know. It's a beautiful place!

Depends - week of July 4th or Second week in August. Still trying to finalize.

Gasworks Park is pretty cool. I enjoyed taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island and walking around the island for the day. There is some great organic produce available in Pike Place Market (although it's definitely a tourist attraction). Are you a coffee drinker?

@jeremy_jensen's suggestions are great. Also, a ferry to the San Juan Islands is unforgettable. If you can spend a couple of days on Orcas or San Juan they will be a highlight of your trip. If you're a baseball fan catch the Mariners at Safeco Field. The Experience Music Project Museum has a great Jimi Hendrix exhibit.

The drive to Vancouver BC with time for border crossing will take you 3-4 hours but Vancouver is gorgeous. Option B would be the ferry to Victoria (you can stop at San Juans on the way). Two very different cities.

Have a terrific trip!

Was in Seattle (my home town) visiting family in May. Adding the "local flavor" - Ballard Locks (yes, the salmon jump the fish ladder), Discovery Park (a park/beach in Magnolia), Starbucks Roastery and Tasting Room on Capital Hill (not the crowded Pike Place market original), Theo Chocolate Factory Tour (ton of samples - in the Fremont district which is funky by itself), Top Pot Doughnuts (all over, local favorite), and University of Washington campus (its a closed campus - can't drive, but a terrific walk!). If you are there on a Saturday, go to the Ballard street fair - very local...

I'll second a ferry trip to Victoria. It's beautiful there and the gardens are amazing if you have the time to explore. Whale watching was fantastic if you haven't done that before.
