U.S. Mail Locations
Here's one of those burning questions I have occasionally: Does anyone know where U.S. mail can be dropped off on the Mayo campus downtown? There used to be a time that we had an out basket for U.S. mail right in our department alongside the basket for interoffice mail, but that is no longer available. I know there is a U.S. mail drop box in the main hallway subway level of the Mayo building, near the elevators, but are there any other drop sites that might be more convenient to the Ozmun building? I don't need to mail something frequently, but every once in a while I do and I'm always searching for a mailbox. Any suggestions?

When I have outgoing regular mail, I just put it in the outgoing mail box. It will go to the Mayo mail center and be delivered properly.
Based on your response, I did a bit of searching (should have done that first I guess) and here is what I found on the Mailing Services-External Mail page:
Outbound U.S. Postal items are collected by Couriers throughout the work day, sorted and routed to Technology Drive Warehouse, and transported to the local U.S. Postal facility Monday through Friday.
Thanks so much for the tip. From now on, I'll just drop it in outgoing mail.
There are 3 in downtown that I can think of offhand...one is in the subway corridor near the junction between Harwick, Baldwin, Science Building, and Guggenheim buildings, one in the subway near the junction of the Mayo and Gonda buildings (I believe this is the one you're referring to). There is (or always was) the long shoot in the Mayo building near the patient elevators (on the lobby level, it would be between the patient elevators and the museum area...I believe this shoot goes all the way up to the top to allow patients to drop envelopes in regardless of what floor they are on. I haven't looked for this last one for awhile, so I'm not quite sure if it's still there or not.
I'm in the Ozmun as well and its how I've always done it and mail gets where it should!
I didn't want to forget that there is a US Post office right across Broadway from the Galleria as well! Just in case you were looking for a walk!
I was told, a lonnnggg time ago, that our mail courier service no longer wanted to deal with outbound mail. That must have changed over time, or I didn't get the right information. I'm glad I asked the question.
