Texas moving to Minnesota - NCLEX

Posted by Jeremy @jeremywalthall, Dec 12, 2018

Hey everyone,
I am a new grad who has recently been hired at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. I was wondering if anyone had advice on what to do when applying for the NCLEX: should I take it here in TX and apply through endorsement for MN, or just take the exam in MN when I go up there for my POPA? If anyone has any guidance, I would much appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi, Most people take the exam in the location in which they currently live and then transfer to MN by endorsement.

That’s what I’ve heard works best as well from fellow peers, but I wanted advice from others out of state, so thank you!! And I start April 22!

I moved from Texas too and started in November 5th! What unit are you on? I took the NCLEX mid October and you get your results a few days after. Then you just need the temporary permit to be able to start. Which you get immediately once you pay the endorsement fee after your name is officially on the TBON website. Since you are a new grad you have the least paperwork having not been a nurse before. It’s the easiest way. Takes like 3 weeks. Then you can move here and handle the background check and all that. The fingerprints always slow the process down. Idk what your timeline is but I was pressed to take it and didn’t know all I needed was the permit. I waited and went on vacation and stuff after I graduated. Message me if you have any other questions!

I'm set to start April 8th. I took the NCLEX here in NJ and am in the process of transferring my RN license to Minnesota by endorsement. The application to transfer is done online and they mail you the information on what's required of you to complete the transfer.
