Hi, I have a question about the flexible spending act. What does it cover and how do you use it? Do I have to submit receipts? If so who do they go to? How do I find out what it covers? Thanks.

Kathy, the Health Care Flexible SPending Account allows you to set aside dollars form your paycheck on a per-tax basis to pay for out of pocket health care expenses. Some examples would include your deductible or coinsurance amounts in the medical or dental plans. The IRS offers more information about what types of expenses are eligible in publication 502 on their site. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf The plan is administered by Mayo Clinic Health Solutions. They offer several ways to submit claims including a mobile app and their online portal. The Open Enrollment guide linked above also has good information about this type of plan. Robert
