Transfer Hire

Posted by bxthx @bxthx, Mar 11, 2022

Hi, so i am transferring from Charter House to Saint Mary’s next month.
I accepted the job today and she gave me the start date and what i need to do inbetween now and then (POPA test, etc…) . But she did not give me the time i am supposed to be there on my start date. My hours are 7am-3:30pm, but when i asked if thats when i show up she said “well i assume normal orientation times like 8-4”… so i am unsure if thats the time im supposed to show up. How can i find out when i need to come in? I know i will be working Francis 1. That is all i know. Also, will i get an email from HR to schedule my POPA test? Because i am unsure how to schedule that as well. I have high anxiety so i just am nervous and need reassurance.

I emailed my boss and lab coordinator directly to ask them when and where I am supposed to be on my start date. My assumption would be that you should show up at your start time at your boss' office or some place where someone can alert your boss that you have arrived in the department. I do not believe typical orientations exist anymore, and the orientation process will most likely be up to your boss. If you have that email or phone number, contact that person and ask them these questions. If you do not, you might want to ask HR for it. As for POPA, I came from out of state and had no possibility of coming here before starting to complete it, so I completed POPA documents online (I got the link for it from "DoNotReply@mayo.edu"), and I received orders for blood work and a urine drug screen via email from Employee Health that I was able to complete at a location near me -- Employee Health also called me to coordinate this. If your new start is approaching quickly and you are not getting the expected phone calls or emails, call Employee Health, HR, or your onboarding coordinator to follow up. My process may have been very different from what yours will be. Sometimes, you have to just wait, but the best thing to do is reach out and ask if things are unclear.

Hi ,I was a new hire and Hr was not helpful at all. Even doing orientation trying sign up for benefits. I didn’t know when to come in so I called my supervisor to ask him. He didn’t know I was coming. I been very disappointed with mayo . I worked here years ago and was way different. Good luck to you.

I have no idea who my supervisor will be. Should i just ask my current manager? I did my interview with a hiring coordinator so i dont even know where my home unit will be located. Ill have to figure that out when i show up. Should i just contact HR to ask who will be my supervisor & their contact info?

@bxthx - you may not need to do a POPA since you are transferring with in Rochester. IF you do HR will let you l know. I think it would be appropriate to ask HR who your supervisor will be and get their contact info to reach out.
