Canadians moving to Jacksonville, Mayo

Posted by andrei1988 @andrei1988, Jun 16, 2022

Hi! Canadian here, moving to Jacksonville in August and trying to get my work visa sorted before that. Can anyone help advise on this part of the process?

I have to fill out I-9 Section 1 on the Mayo Onboard page, but I don't have my SSN yet, as I am waiting for the J-1. Can I say I have applied for the SSN (I have already contacted the SSN office in Niagara Falls, NY) or should I wait for the J-1? I don't want to delay the appointment process more than necessary.

Thanks in advance!

Hey! I'm a Canadian as well, but heading to Minnesota. I was confused about that as well, but I just said I've applied for it for now, even though I need to wait until I arrive in the states. Specifically, I think you need to wait to cross the border, and then send in that "check-in" form, so Mayo can process that you've arrived in the country. And I believe it takes about 5-10 days, after which you can apply for a SSN. I've emailed the Mayo legal team as well and they said you can only apply for an SSN once you've arrived in the states.

I hope this helps!

I thought I had something and then found out there's no shuttle or transpo to get to the hospital. I wanted to walk or shuttle (my car is too old. I won't bring it). I'm on a roommate site but no one responds. I'm on a Facebook site and still nothing with transpo or walking distance.
