No caffeine after midnight! Even though you may see half your coworkers consuming it, lot’s of water , healthier lunch options like pasta, salad, etc and not the heavy stuff like fast food, and lastly lots and lots of snacks! Between the hours of 3am-5am your body will began to make an aweful shift but you will learn to get use to it which is why staying hydrated is important!
Oh this is just some of my recommendations for the overnighters. But you should definitely do whatever it is that works for you. I’ve been a PCT for 6 years and this is just advise based off of what I have experienced. If you are new to working overnights your body will most definitely struggle a little at first 😂 because we are technically supposed to be sleeping but you will learn your own routine.
Caffeine is a stimulant. If you consume it too close to your sleep time, it will mess it up. I like to look at this from a different angle. I think the late shift time is really about adjusting to being active for almost 10-12 hours and learning to adjust.
heyyy guys I don't know if my comment went through but I'm Rachel a new PCT working night shifts in the neuroscience department. Its all nice meeting you all !
