Looking for friends

Posted by kc26 @kc26, Dec 9, 2019

Hi everyone, I just got offered a HUC position at mayo. (Rochester) I currently live in Winona. I will be communicating for the time being but eventually would love to move to Rochester. I have a golden retriever, Rowyn. Just looking to meet some people and have a good group for when I decide to make the transition. If anyone has any advise on good places to live that allow dogs or good doggie daycares. Thank you 🙂

I would also be interested to know about doggie daycares!

Welcome to Rochester! I'd just like to throw out there that I do overnight, in-house/apartment pet sitting if you should ever need a sitter for a vacation/work trip, etc. My rate is $30 per night for the base fee for one pet. Add on an additional $5 per night per pet for each additional animal. (If you have like lots of cats, we can negotiate something else. Not trying to break anyone's bank). I have experience administering medications, if that's something your furry friend needs. I do work 8a-5p.m. and would not be able to let them out during the day. If interested, please send me a PM here, as I cannot leave my personal information on this forum.

I'm not sure what your price range is for housing, but I currently live at Timberland Heights on the NW side of Rochester and love it there. Maintenance has been super responsive to our requests, which is something I haven't had in a landlord before. For a 640 square foot 1 bed, 1 bath apartment, our rent is currently $860 per month, plus electricity (which is also our heat) and internet. All in all, our monthly housing/utility cost is about $1K / month. They do allow dogs, with a pet deposit and monthly pet rent. If you consider living there, please put me down for a referral: Sarah Kiehl 🙂

Otherwise, I have a friend who lives at SoRoc and enjoys it there, too! I believe they are animal friendly as well.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the information. Unfortunately I live in Winona but I would be looking for someone to possibly watch her while I was at work where I could bring her to Rochester and drop her off. I am only part time right now and weekend 1. I would be looking someplace for around $15 a day.
I did see the Grates of Rochester are pretty affordable. I would not be moving until the summer but am trying to see what is out there. Thank you for reaching out to me 🙂

Be wary of The Gates. It's gotten better, so I've heard, but it's kind of known as the slum of Rochester and is sketchy. I've had multiple coworkers tell me not to move there. One coworker told me she had students who gave her terrifying reasons why they couldn't get back to their apartment to do their homework--drug deals, murders, sex trafficking, crime. That might have been a few years ago, but personally I'd still be wary of it.

Do you have access to the Mayo Classifieds yet? There's lots of rooms for rent and apartments for rent and such, and some allow pets.
