Are "Free Screening Tests" Really Free for Employees?
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a recent painful experience with Mayo Clinic's annual free screening tests for staff and hear your thoughts on the matter.
My wife and I were excited to take advantage of the supposed free screening tests, but we were hit with an unexpected bill of around $1600. Needless to say, we're pretty frustrated about it. It feels like the whole "free" part was misleading .
We reached out to customer service before our visits to make sure we were on the right track, but we were told we had to see a doctor to get the tests ordered. Even when we mentioned our goal of a straightforward screening and the desire for the free services, it didn't seem to make a difference at that point.
Now, we're in a tough spot and have even received countless number of letters and emails from Mayo Clinic at Rochester. As this wasn't the service we requested neither its consequences. The responses we received seemed dismissive of the issue (like talk to insurance!, or we can set up a payment plan for you!!!), emphasizing payment without addressing what it was supposed to really be.
It is not funny that Mayo Clinic departments at Rochester mislead and exploit Mayo Clinic's own employees under Mayo Clinic owned insurance company , after proceeding to Mayo Clinic suggested free screening tests by a Mayo clinic physician! Dealing with collection agencies just adds insult to injury.
Has anyone else faced similar issues ? We're feeling frustrated and could use some insights or advice. We even thought of publicizing the situation or even hiring a lawyer, but we like Mayo Clinic in general and prefer not to to take those steps. Really tough situation.
Thanks for your time and thoughts.
