Review the Open Enrollment Guide to learn more about your dental and vision plan options. Then, during open enrollment, Nov. 1–15, make your coverage changes in Oracle.
Mayo Clinic strives to support you and your family's health and well-being by offering a variety of dental and vision plan options.
During open enrollment, Nov. 1–15, you can make changes to your dental and vision plan elections, which take effect Jan. 1, 2025. If no action is taken, your current dental and vision plan elections will remain the same. There will be no increases this year to premiums for the Mayo Reimbursement Account, Delta Dental or Vision Care Plan.
A guide to making dental and vision plan decisions
Decision No. 1: For dental plan coverage, choose between the Mayo Reimbursement Account or Delta Dental, or decline both.
With the Mayo Reimbursement Account, you pay a low monthly premium and receive an annual employer contribution of $1,150. You can use your Mayo Reimbursement Account dollars to receive reimbursement for eligible dental and vision expenses. The premium and the contribution are the same, regardless of who you have covered or your full-time equivalent status. You can visit any licensed provider, and any unused funds roll over year to year up to a maximum balance of $5,000.
Delta Dental is a cost-sharing plan with a participating provider network. You are not required to use an in-network professional. However, you receive network savings by doing so. Both Delta Dental options — Standard and Deluxe — include coverage for preventive exams, coinsurance for services once the deductible has been met, an annual maximum and an orthodontic lifetime benefit. With the Deluxe option, you pay a higher premium and receive higher coverage.
When deciding, you should:
- Review your current dental expenses to determine if your dental plan is still a good fit for your family's needs. Consider the cost of premiums and plan maximum coverage amounts per person.
- Check to see if your dental professional participates in the Delta Dental network, or visit the Delta Dental website to find a professional.
- Consider that — if you are currently enrolled in the Mayo Reimbursement Account (MRA) and you switch to Delta Dental for 2025 — you can continue to incur MRA-eligible expenses through Dec. 31. Reimbursement claims for those expenses must be submitted by March 31, 2025. After that date, any remaining balance in your Mayo Reimbursement Account will be forfeited.
- Consider that you may be eligible for coverage under both the Mayo Reimbursement Account and Delta Dental if your spouse also works at Mayo Clinic, or if you are under 26 and one of your parents works for Mayo Clinic. If you elect dual coverage — which means one of you is covered by the Mayo Reimbursement Account, and the other by Delta Dental — the plan(s) will follow the standard coordination of benefit rules, and Delta Dental will be the primary payer. You cannot be double-covered under Delta Dental.
Decision No. 2: Choose the Vision Care Plan or decline.
The Vision Care Plan, which is insured through Avesis, includes coverage for routine vision needs, including refraction (vision) exams and materials. With this plan, you receive in-network (copays and allowance) and out-of-network (reimbursement) coverage. The Vision Care Plan can be combined with other Mayo Clinic benefit plans to stretch your vision dollars further.
To help you decide, consider that you can:
- Look up in-network providers for the Vision Care Plan.
- Enroll in the Vision Care Plan, regardless of what you decide to do about dental coverage.
- Enroll in the Mayo Reimbursement Account and Vision Care Plan. The Vision Care Plan will pay first for vision-related expenses. After that plan's coverage is exhausted, the remaining expenses can be submitted to the Mayo Reimbursement Account.
