Cover letter break down
- Paragraph one: state your strongest point and the job for which you want to be considered
- Paragraph two: explain why you want to work for this organization and why you desire this type of position
- Paragraph three: high light your skills and qualifications which are relevant to this job by looking at the job description and picking out the important qualifications.
- Paragraph four or concluding your letter: request an interview or let them know you are looking forward to the opportunity to interview and sate how you will follow up (such as in the coming weeks)- Do not forget to thank them for their time and considerations in conclusion of your cover letter.
Mayo's Share Model
- Situation – Describe a specific situation – where did it take place, who was involved, and the context
- Hindrance – Ask yourself the question – what was your biggest challenge in this example was
- Action Taken – what did you do – it is okay to share what your team did, but make sure to highlight your contribution
- Result – whether the outcome was positive or negative make sure to share your results.
- Evaluation – this is the stage that people often miss. A situation may not turn out the way you planned, but what matters more is what you learned and how it impacts your future action.
