Welcome to the Travel group - Introduce Yourself!
Welcome to the Travel group on Mayo Clinic Town Square.
This is a fun place where you can meet others who love to travel. We can connect and share travel stories, ask for recommendations for where to stop while in various travel destinations, and even learn about new places that you can add to your travel wish list. This is an open forum for all kinds of connections and conversations.
My name is Treasure Ransom. My family and I love to travel. Our current mission is to get to all of the major league baseball parks. Some of my favorite trips have been when traveling with my college choir to 8 European countries, cruising to the Mexican Riviera and to Alaska, spending time in Hawaii, New York City, Washington D.C., and most recently, to California to experience all five of their MLB baseball parks. I can't wait to participate in conversations with you all and learn about some exciting places we need to visit.
Let's chat. Why not start by briefly introducing yourself here and by starting a new discussion specific to your travel interests?

We went to the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica when we were there. It's near Limon (on the Caribbean side of the country) and a great experience. In addition to the sloths they have--including babies--we also saw sloths, a caiman, and howler monkeys in the wild. I also believe there was a Jesus lizard here (common basilisk) but I don't think I saw that one.
Hi! We were part of a group of 50 HS students and chaperones for 8 days! It was amazing. The highlights we enjoyed included Arenal Volcano, zip lining, white water rafting, and sleeping in the rainforest. You will enjoy it!!!
Encourage you to go South! Austin, Texas; Destin, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana. All terrific places and not outrageously expensive.
Hi, I am Kaija. I am addicted to traveling, for which I think there is no real cure. I can't say I am looking for one either! I can't wait to hear your stories and tips on things to do and places to see. Some of my favorite trips? Backpacking Southeast Asia, camping in Iceland, visiting my second home in Finland, bicycle camping Big Sur along the California coast, bicycle camping the archipelago between Finland and Sweden, motorhome touring Europe, St. Petersburg Russia, Egypt..... I guess the list doesn't end! Happy travels!
Hello fellow travelers! My name is Melissa. I, like everyone else here, have a strong passion for travel. I began exploring the world in 2014 and quickly became aware that I loved the feeling I had when I got to visit a new place and experience their culture. Since 2014, I have been to Spain, Italy, Greece, Monaco, France three times, The UK twice, Thailand. Costa Rica, and most recently Iceland and Amsterdam. I leave for Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in a little over a week. In May, I am headed to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which just happens to be my dream trip. If anyone has suggestions for things to do in Auckland, Sydney, or Nadi, please send them my way. I look forward to reading everyone's stories and sharing some of my own. Thanks! Melissa
Enjoy your upcoming trip, @melissaabrooks!
Hello,
I just joined this group (finally) and love to travel, too. Unfortunately, my husband is a homebody so I usually travel with a great friend. My current mission is to visit all 50 states. Going to Michigan next month so after that will have Utah, New Mexico, Georgia, Louisiana, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Alaska left!
On another note, my son is traveling to Oslo, Berlin, and Amsterdam later this month. He and three other guys are going to visit a foreign exchange student in Norway that was in their senior class in 2016. After Norway, they will travel to Germany and The Netherlands on their own. Any tips for these guys? Sites to see? Do's and do not's? I don't have any experience in Europe so don't have much advice except the normal "mom" stuff!
Hi! I'm Anne Meyer and I do love to travel! My significant other and I are heading out west to Montana (Glacier National Park) and the Canadian Rockies in late August; we've done that trip every year for the past eight or so. I can give plenty of advice about hiking, camping and dining in that area. We avoid the major touristy areas, though, so don't ask me much about Banff. We also go to Tucson, AZ for two weeks every winter and have spent a week in Naples Florida every winter for quite a few years. Again, we navigate toward hiking, bike riding, bird watching and other "natural" activities. I noticed the previous posts on Ireland. I was fortunate to visit there in 2004 and it was incredibly special. We are considering a trip to Scotland but we're not sure how we can do that and still do all of our "usual" trips!
Welcome, @janicembi! I love your current mission. It will be fun to travel to the remaining states on your list!
I am going to suggest that for your question on tips for your international travelers, that you post a discussion for that specific question so it doesn't get lost in this thread. I think you may have better luck getting responses.
We just returned from Moab, Utah and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Canyonlands and Arches National Parks as well as Dead Horses Point State Park and the Colorado River Recreation Area. We were attending a wedding at Under Canvas and enjoyed camping without roughing it! It was very HOT, so bring sun block, a hat and lots of water!
