New York City

We will be traveling to NYC over the holiday season, as first time visitors. Any recommendations or travel tips for us newbies? Thanks in advance!!!

It's been many years since I visited NYC for my first time, almost six years to be exact, but it was such a great city to visit. I think it goes without saying that the 9/11 Memorial Site and Museum is a must see. When I went, the museum and visitor center was just being built and the new tower wasn't finished, but the reflection pools in the footprints of the twin towers were amazing. I took a slow walk around each one taking it all in! We also took a boat ride around the island, which took us RIGHT past the Statue of Liberty. She is something to see! We didn't take the boat ride directly out to her as I think she was also under construction when we were there, plus we weren't there for very long, so boating past her was sufficient for that trip! The boat ride was a lot of fun going under the many famous bridges into NYC. I also loved walking over the Brooklyn Bridge (my all-time FAVE!!) and eating at Grimaldi's under the bridge on the other side! I also loved walking the High Line, which is a former raised train track system that they turned into a green-space/park. Super cool! Hope you have/had a great time!!!!

We just returned from out trip on Wednesday. It was out of this world, fun! It looks as though we had a similar experience. We spent 6 hours at the 9/11 memorial and could have stayed longer. What an emotional day that was. You really can't put into words how moving it was. They did a beautiful job at putting it all together. So heart-wrenching. We decided on taking the Staten Island Ferry to view the Statue of Liberty. Such a great free option for indulging in the beauty. Brooklyn Bridge was also my fave!!! We crossed over one night and it was breathtaking. We captured some beautiful photos. We didn't make it on the High Line or Grimaldi's, but we both agreed that we would be back. I will put those two on my must-see list for next time. Thanks for your input!!

Sounds like you had a GREAT trip! I'm so happy to hear that. And yes, I, too, will be back as I need to see the 9/11 museum since that wasn't done when we were there. Would love to see some photos from your trip!
