We'd like to get the carpet in our house professionally cleaned. In general, what should we look for in a vendor? In the Rochester area, are there vendors you'd recommend? Thanks.

@amandab I see Go Green Carpet Clean notes "eco-friendly" on their website. How can I be sure?

Great question and super timely because I was just thinking about having my home carpet professionally cleaned! I would suggest asking the professional cleaner what types of cleaning products they use and if any of the products are certified as “green” through a third party certification program that ensures they meet specific performance, health and environmental standards. Green Seal, UL Ecologo and USEPA Safer Choice are 3 of the major certification programs. I also suggest asking what type of equipment the cleaner uses. There are some types of floor cleaning equipment that only use water and don’t use any chemicals at all. Some things to watch out for – using terms like natural and green without the ability to back it up with credible information and the inability or unwillingness to share information about chemicals and processes used. Hope that’s helpful! I have not yet done any research on Rochester-area vendors and am curious to see if anyone has recommendations.
