Cabin fever dreaming...spring gardening!

Posted by Amanda Holloway @amandab, Feb 23, 2018

Is anyone else starting to dream of gardening season? What are you planning for your garden this year? Going to try anything new or different?

Spring fever is in full effect here in La Crosse WI. Thankfully this is the time of year when garden planning begins. This weekend the gardening season kicks off at the Washburn Garden Expo at Lincoln Middle School in La Crosse WI.

An array of exhibitors will be there to provide gardening tips and share insight. Arborists, master gardeners, bug experts are just a few exhibitors in attendance. I will be there to talk with folks about "Square Foot Gardening" and how it is a great method that uses less space that a traditional vegetable garden but still produces a bountiful harvest.

Karl Green, a professor at the University of Wisconsin Extension-La Crosse County, will be the featured speaker. He will present from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. on rain gardens and their sustainable impact to the local aquifer.

For more information see this This Week at Mayo Clinic article: http://newsletters.mayo.edu/newscenter/Article.aspx?contentID=DOCMAN-0000173935&category=Mayo Community&subcategory=Events

Last but not least it is a FREE event with a light lunch provided to all who attend (while supplies last).

Hope to see you there!

Hoping to expand my gardening this year with a small, humble, "starter greenhouse" next to my home Does anyone know of local greenhouse designers or builders who can think through a project with/for me? Thanks for any recommendations?

@amandab I've been dreaming since the start of the new year! I received my seeds about 10 days ago and am now planning out my bed. I am trying some new melons this year and thinking of doubling my garden space to include a berry patch. If anyone has recommendations for strawberry, raspberry, or blueberry varieties I would appreciate them.
