Hi, my name is Faith. I will be starting in Tomah, WI on June 18th as a clinical therapist. I am excited and nervous/anxious all at the same time. I really love this idea of being able to connect with other mayo employees from across the country. @sunnihemingsen, I grew up in Salt Lake City, amongst other places, and went to West High School, but I graduated high school in Las Vegas, NV.
My Question: I will be working for two weeks, and then will be taking a week long vacation, going to New Orleans. I have never been before. Can anyone give me ideas of must do things? Note: It will be myself, my husband, and our 11 and 9-year-old daughters.
Fun Fact: Even though I swore I would never be one, I am a pageant mom, and love just about everything about it. My 21-year-old got me into it when she did her first pageant at 14, competing for Miss Wisconsin Teen USA. She competed in the teen division several years, and competed in the Miss division one year. She has done a few other pageants along the way as well. Before her first pageant, I told her that it was going to be the one and only pageant, and that I was not going to be "one of those pageant mom's." At the end of that pageant I was bawling my eyes out. We had met some wonderful ladies and mothers (fathers, siblings, and other realtives as well), and it was a full two day event. At the end, I told her, through my sobbing, that we had to come back again the following year. She has competed in almost one pageant a year since then. Her last pageant was in the Miss United States organization last year, so that she could compete in a pageant with the 9 and 11-year-olds. My 11-year-old (10 at the time) became Little Miss Wisconsin United States, and last July we went to Florida for the national competition - proud mama moment.
Hobby: If it counts as a hobby - collecting as much bling as possible. I seriously love bling, and I believe that even though I am in my 40's, I can still wearing clothes and shoes covered in bling.
Welcome, @faithb75! Thanks for sharing! I see you found the travel group and joined a discussion about New Orleans. Hopefully you will learn some great tips there.
I am not a pageant mom, but I can relate to proud mama moments with my boys and their sports. I can also relate to the bling. One summer my favorite flip flops had this big baseball bling right in the center and blingy stars surrounding it on both sides. I got tons of compliments that I brought bling to the baseball field. 🙂
Enjoy your new role and your trip in July!
