Take Your Break: May 21-June 17

Posted by Linde Sifuentes @sifuenteslinde, May 3, 2018

Employees are encouraged to take a few minutes each day to get away from their desks or work spaces and enjoy the benefits of taking a break during the workday. Why? They average person is sitting (aka average) for 12 hours a day.
This 4-week challenge will motivate you to give yourself permission to use your breaks and do something great for your health and well-being. Incorporate small bursts of healthy activity into your workday to help rejuvenate, refocus and recharge. Everyone is encouraged to partake - whether you're active. sedentary, or stressed - we can all benefit by taking breaks. Plus Mayo Clinic policy approves breaks, so let's make the most of them!

I usually use my 15's for things like water and coffee, but I did take a lunchtime walk today! 1.75 miles in 40 minutes and 80 degrees!!

I have been enjoying taking a break at work with some great outdoor quick walks. I took a break from doing the dishes at home yesterday with my kids to play some basketball! It was so worth it! Still got the dishes done but it was fun to join them for some impromptu b-ball!

During lunch today, I got a punch on my tracking card for the first Walking Wednesday in Rochester.

My view at lunch yesterday/everyday. There were probably 50 geese along the shore while I ate. I love watching the baby geese grow up.

I got my Take a Break Challenge email today. I got a kick out of one of the tips for increasing my daily activity levels at home - Park further away to get a few extra steps at the grocery store.

For years I have given my husband grief for parking as far away from any store possible to prevent door dings on our vehicle (he has a reputation for this and we love teasing him). I guess the joke is on me. I should have been thanking him for increasing my activity level. 🙂

Thanks for these great tips and challenges! It has me thinking differently!
