Utilizing Mayo's Moving Benefits

Posted by Alexis Hart @amhart, Jun 5, 2018

So, I am moving from Casper, WY to Rochester, MN. I definitely have a household worth of stuff to move and I am stoked about the option to use the movers. I have never done so before, so I am kind of nervous about the whole process. I don't want to mess part of it up and end up having to pay for the movers myself. Has anyone used the moving services that are offered? Do you have any tips/ suggestions to make to process work more smoothly.

I just relocated from TX to AZ and used Mayflower to move my household goods. During the busy summer months the moving company requires more notice (at least 6 weeks) to schedule your move.

I contacted Mayflower to schedule my move and once the dates were scheduled I had to email Household Moving at Mayo (email address is listed in the moving guide) to have them email an authorization notice to Mayflower for my move. The process was pretty easy 😉 In addition to the household good relocation benefit I was also authorized a lump sum payment to cover moving expenses related to driving from TX to AZ (to be paid out in my 2nd or 3rd paycheck).

I want to share my lessons learned to help make the move easier for anyone else who is getting ready to do the same:
1. Contact the moving company at least 6 weeks prior to your requested move date.
2. Make sure you have a delivery address within a few days of your scheduled household goods pick up, so your furniture can be delivered as soon as the furniture arrives to AZ. This will keep you from paying storage fees, since storage fees are not covered under the Mayo Clinic's relocation package.
3. Purge prior to the movers arriving to your home, because once they start packing it all gets packed .

Please feel free to contact me with questions as moving can be pretty stressful!!

For me they offered me a lump sum of $$$ to be paid on my first paycheck as I was told. I am moving 120 miles within MN in September. I only have couches And my bed as furniture so no much to move really.
