Gratitude Board!

Posted by Amy Loesche @lamancusa, Aug 1, 2018

Two psychologists, Dr. Robert A. Emmons of the University of California, Davis, and Dr. Michael E. McCullough of the University of Miami, have done much research on gratitude. In one study, they asked all participants to write a few sentences each week, focusing on particular topics.
One group wrote about things they were grateful for that had occurred during the week. A second group wrote about daily irritations or things that had displeased them, and the third wrote about events that had affected them (with no emphasis on them being positive or negative). After 10 weeks, those who wrote about gratitude were more optimistic and felt better about their lives. Surprisingly, they also exercised more and had fewer visits to physicians than those who focused on sources of aggravation.

We created a gratitude board for our department as a way to encourage and inspire staff to practice gratitude. It is a key component of SMART training- so we wanted to provide an easy option for staff to use at work!

Media services will create this for you! Send them what you want, the dimensions, and ask for it to be laminated and have a foam core... this way, you can use dry erase markers on it, and it is a bit sturdier. I am also including our proof if you want to use the same one. 🙂 Includes one of my favorite quotes....

I love this idea! Thanks for sharing, @lamancusa. Not sure why, but clicking on the pdf didn't work for me.

Why not share some gratitude in this discussion. I will start:

I am grateful for colleagues that are willing to take on extra responsibility so I can take vacation. Thanks, @daniv, @bethriley, @sarahshtylla! 🙂

Amy, this is an amazing idea. It was a joy to be able to come to your work team to share the SMART Training. Way to enhance the principle of gratitude within your team to create a culture of well-being with your team! I am grateful to have been able to meet everyone on your team and see their smiling faces in the halls at Mayo. @lamancusa . @transom , we are for sure lucky to have such amazing colleagues! I am grateful to be a part of our team!
