Weekly Running Group

Posted by Steven M. Smith @stevesmith2, Dec 3, 2018

Hello! This year I started running pretty regularly and decided to start training for my first marathon in 2019. As a way to help keep a consistent schedule and to motivate others in their journey's, I have created a weekly running group (https://www.meetup.com/Rochester-Running/). This group is not about running as hard as you can, bur rather creating a community to help encourage and support others in their running goals. Running is fun and this group aims to be the epitome of that fact. Let's run together!

I'm hoping this group is still active. I just started my base training for my very 1st Half Marathon I registered for in November, YIKES! It's on the bucket list and I am determined to do it this year, no excuses. I started training for one in 2017 and let injury derail my training but I refuse this time. I am a 5ker so this is going to be a challenge. The furthest I've ever run is 8 miles...and that was about 4-5 years ago, ha!

@jamimapson Yes! Well, I suppose technically the group is still active. This snowy February has prevented us from holding regular events. Myself and another mayo employee/friend are training for Grandma's Marathon on June 22nd and just finish our first week of training - 27 miles over the course of the week, I am quite sore!

My training program is pretty rigid but Sunday's and Tuesday's are typically a light 3 mile run. Depending on your training, I am sure we can find some overlap to work toward our goals while also not having to adjust our training schedules too much.

Excellent to see a good running group up and running. Hopefully the weather improves soon for all of you training for a mid-spring race. Did you know Rochester DAHLC has a program called, Pick Up the Pace Running Series. Check out the 3-part series on the dahlc.mayoclinic.org page. Click on specialty at the top and then click on "series" to find out more info.

@stevesmith2 I'm sorry, I should have paid closer attention to the location/function of this group. Are you in Rochester? I'm in Eau Claire. Was just trying to join a group virtually. Good luck to you all
