New Grad RN, New to MN

Posted by lizrado @lizrado, Jul 16, 2021

Hi! My name is Liz, I’m a new grad RN starting in the CVSICU this August!
I’m moving from NJ to MN, and wanted to try to get to know people before the move 🙂

I like baking, shopping, staying physically active, running, art, reading
Honestly, I’d be super open to and down to trying new activities! Especially the ones specific to MN like skiing, hunting, camping, etc

Also any new grad RN advice, and tips on preparing for life in MN (…like how to pump gas and stay warm LOL) would be much appreciated!

Very much so looking forward to meeting new co-workers! I can't wait to see what working at the Mayo Clinic and life in Rochester offers!! 🙂 thanks!

Hey Liz! I'm a PCA in the CVSICU so we'll be getting to know each other over clean ups, turns, and baths lol. I'm switching to days from nights in August so I can get some camping in so maybe we can get some people from the floor out to the north shore or something sometime. I also try to take my dog hiking every day so you're more than welcome to tag along. We have a unit council that puts together social events, I've heard there are plans to go to Twins games, tubing, and I have a pontoon on the Mississippi that I've offered to take us out to the sand bars, so you'll definitely have opportunities to have fun when you get here!

As for the cold - layers are your friend, preheat your car, and buy a bunch of those disposable hand warmers and put them in your gloves before you leave. I also find that swearing a lot and muttering to yourself "why do I live here" is effective as well.

See you around!

Hi Liz! I'm also a new grad nurse starting in August! I will be at St. Mary's on the Medical/Surgical floor. I share a lot of the same interests as you and have been training to hopefully do some local runs in Rochester and the surrounding area! I would also love to learn to ski and have a group to go camping with. Plus, it is always helpful to have new grad friends that you can talk to about all things nursing and the struggles. Feel free to reach out to me! My number is 224-795-0495.
