Hey travelers! Wondering what your BEST vacation EVER was?… I need some inspiration as I start to plan next year's travel budget!
I also hear the Azores are very inexpensive…I saw houses on the beach with private pools, sleep 8-10 people for less than $120/night.
Spain! I lived there for a year. Best place on earth!
French Polynesia! For my 25th wedding anniversary we went on a 7 day cruise and then back to Bora Bora. It was amazing!

Those are amazing pictures!! I've always wanted to stay in an over the water bungalow!! I'm sure it was absolutely wonderful! I hope I'm able to do that someday!
I hear they have those over the water huts in the Caribbean now!
I'm looking at going to a Sandals resort in St. Lucia for my honeymoon. They have them. The regular rate is something like $38,000 for a week. Their discounted rate right now is $17,000. Pure craziness, but if I had them money I'd definitely pay it for that experience!!
For that amount of money, you could get a pretty nice cabin aboard a Celebrity or Royal Caribbean cruise ship and include St. Lucia as a port along with many others. You can also take an excursion to Sandals for the day.
Hi Stacy — this looks like paradise! Can you give me just a bit more info on this? I am soooo interested! What cruise line? How did you get there? What month did you go? Thanks! –Leann Wurtzel
The cruise line was the Paul Gauguin, we did a 7 day cruise but they have offerings for longer trips too. We flew to Los Angeles and then to Papeete Tahiti, catching the cruise there. We went in May, I have a friend who went in August. They do have a rainy season in December.
For a driving trip and exploring multiple national parks (US and Canadian), I would recommend the Circle Tour around Lake Superior. Spectacular scenery, you can go at your own pace, lots of oddball places to check out, you can be as active or inactive as you want. You can camp or stay in hotels all the way. A highlight was the sunset cruise at Pictured Rocks out of Munising – we had perfect weather and it was amazing.
My best vacation ever was the 7 weeks I spent in Europe after graduation. I did two weeks in Bulgaria working with the Balkan Heritage Field School to preserve the frescos in medieval churches. Afterwards, I went to Italy, Romania, Austria, a day trip to the Eagles Nest in Germany, England, Wales, and Ireland. Top two favorite places I visited was the Eagles Nest in Germany, and the Cliffs of Moher on the western coast of Ireland. Breathtaking places and I would definitely go again
One of my favorite trips was to Alaska a few years back. We flew in to Anchorage, got a car and headed up to Talkeetna for a couple of nights. We checked in to a scenic flight around McKinley and landing on a glacier for the next day and they had two openings left for the next morning. Words can not describe how incredibly that was to fly around. Weather was beautiful. We then drove toward the Kenai peninsula. We stayed in Homer Alaska a few nights. Took a half day Halibut fishing trip, husband wasn't a fan because he is not a fisherman, but I had a great time. The next day we had booked last minute a grizzly bear adventure where you fly in to this national park on the coast. They land the planes on the sandy beach and you walk amongst the bears feeding in the fields. That was an adventure of a life time. So incredible and exhilarating as you are in a group with 2 guides/pilots who can have no weapons except marine flairs to run off any rogue bear that gets to close to the group. One did but they manages to scare him away without shooting off the flairs. Got great pictures. We had brown bag lunches in the fields with them. That was a very expensive trip but we managed to get on as standby. He was in one plan and I the other. They had to weight us to make sure we didn't put the planes over weight limit being the last two on. Whew. Recommend that trip to anyone that gets to Alaska. The weather could not have been more cooperative when we were there and almost no bugs. Not what I was expecting after reading up on Alaska. Loved it.
Sorry for the typos. I forgot to mention that we stayed in cabins for most of the trip which added to the experience.
I am a cruiser, so anywhere on a cruise. I did love Seattle when I went too
