Bottled water at Mayo...why?

Just had a conversation with colleagues about bottled water at Mayo. The tap water is rigorously tested within all Mayo buildings. Yet, people consistently drink bottled water. Why? Is there something that we can collectively do to help shift people's first impulse from "I'll grab a bottle of water!" to "I'll fill up a glass/my bottle!"

More bottle filler water fountains? Sending empty cups with catered lunches rather than bottled water? Promoting Mayo tap water?

I have a water fountain by my desk and the spout is corroded and white and green and people still drink out of it. it also is really loud like a motor cycle on idle when anyone uses it.

Not that this helps your noise problem, but the white and green buildup is probably just lime scale (minerals precipitated from the water) that buildup on faucets and pipes everywhere unless the water is softened. I realize it's an eyesore but it is actually not harmful to drink from.

I agree with @mmoore: the use of bottled water at Mayo is definitely shocking when there are so many fountains and bottle fill stations available. Additionally, I am wondering if there is anything we can do to decrease the use of bottled water at catered lunches. Whenever I go to a seminar with lunch provided it seems as though bottled water is included in the beverage selection. I wish we could have the option of a water pitcher and cups!

Actually, ice water in pitchers is available as a beverage service. I think it's $1.50 a pitcher. The provided cups are on the small side.
