Be sure to check the Mayo classifieds for housing. There are usually quite a few options.

If you're open to options beyond Rochester ... when we moved to the area 2.5 years ago, we first looked in Rochester, but the market was limited and we couldn't find what we wanted, so we looked at the surrounding, smaller communities. There are bussing options to and from many of communities around Rochester.

Great suggestion, @solucky!

If you haven't started yet @markon, @queenngale, and @christinelf, please note the Mayo Classifieds aren't going to be available until you are an employee.

I’m also new to Arizona and looking for a 2 bedroom for rent in good, safe area. Any suggestions?

Welcome @andreacosta1988 ! I have been in my townhouse for over 16 years now, so I'm not sure how the apartment/rental scene is now. What campus will you be working at and do you want to live close to work? A long time ago, I lived in an apartment near the Clinic. I liked it there, but love where I am now. I live really close to the Phoenix Campus (10 minutes or less door-to-door). There are units for rent in my townhouse complex, but I cannot speak to the owners as they are individually owned, not by a complex manager like an apartment complex would be. Being close to the hospital campus, I am close to Desert Ridge with great shopping and restaurants as well as PV Mall. This location is close to the 101 freeway, so easy access to other parts of the valley, as well!

Which communities would be good to look into? I am fine with a 30-45 minute commute daily. I'll be moving there at the end of June, but I'm from Wyoming where things a few and far between. I'm used to lots of driving!

I've driven through Wyoming numerous times ... yes, lots of driving 🙂 Pine Island, Oronoco, Byron, Kasson, Zumbrota to name a few ... honestly, we narrowed it down based mostly on what was available for housing, which was limited at the time. We wanted to have easy access to Hwy 52, the main route to the Twin Cities, or County Road 14, which is a primary route to where our family lives. Prices were a little less in the smaller communities as well.

Congrats on your upcoming move, @amhart!

Sunni made some great suggestions for area communities. I live in Austin. It would be on the upper end of your commute daily, with it being about 50 minutes door to door, but Austin, MN is where I live and we really enjoy it. It is mostly interstate driving, so during most parts of the year, it is easy to get to and from work. I am an avid audiobook listener, so don't mind the commute. There are also commuter busses that have 2 different departure times from Austin to Rochester that get employees to Rochester for a 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. shift.

If you want more information about Austin, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck on your search!
