General Guidelines for Rochester

  • If you are a lactating employee/ learner, you’ll be glad to know about the many on-site lactation rooms. The rooms are provided for lactation purposes only, not for directly feeding a child.
  • For a map of specific locations for Rochester, visit building plans (this link only accessible within the Mayo intranet), and select the building and floor.
  • Lactation Room Standards.
  • At this time, Mayo does not support any advanced scheduling for the lactation rooms. We rely on the users to cooperate with each other in regards to their use. Employees are directed to speak with their supervisor should any issues arise.
  • All the listed rooms are institutionally owned and can be used as needed.
  • Upcoming Events

Room Concerns

  • If you have reason to believe that the lactation room is being used for purposes other than its intent, you may call Security. Downtown (28) 4-2179 and St. Mary’s (25) 5-5108.
  • Each room consists of a lock on the door, sink, chair, and a hospital-grade Medela Breastpump as well as a phone. If the equipment is malfunctioning, please call Facilities at 8-1222.
  • If the room is out of supplies, please call Environmental Services at 4-2014.
  • To report issues of room usage not for lactation purposes or concerns about support for time to pump during the work day, contact HR Connect either on the intranet or at 888-266-0440.

Lactation Pods

In response to feedback from lactating staff and learners, Mayo Clinic has installed four Mamava lactation pods in Rochester.

These pods are located at:

Saint Marys Campus
A lactation pod is located near the employee cafeteria in the Mary Brigh building.

Downtown
Two lactation pods are located in the far end of Eisenberg Cafeteria. One of the pods is handicapped-accessible. An additional lactation pod is in the breakroom on Gonda 9.

Convenience via app
The lactation pods offer a spacious and private environment, and can be accessed with the Mamava app. Through the app, you can see where the pods are located and whether they are available. It is not necessary to book a pod in advance. The app also offers controls to adjust lighting and airflow, as well as helpful lactation resources and quick tips.

You can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Only lactating staff and learners are permitted to use these pods. Once you are done using a pod, leave it clean for the next user.

We're happy to hear you found the resources helpful, @mariagoodew! Also, thank you for the noted change. We updated the document to reflect the correct location for Siebens.

Very helpful resources, particularly as someone who works in different buildings all the time, it's great to have this easy to reference guide. Is there any possibility that the document might be able to reflect which rooms have computers and/or phones as well? As a resident, I'll often want to answer pages and get notes done while pumping and it'd be great to know which rooms I can expect to be able to do this in (rather than my current trial/error strategy when I'm in a new place!). Thanks for considering.

Hi @aodhnaitsfa, thank you for your suggestion and sharing your experience using the lactation rooms. We will look into your request and see if it is something we can update. Thank you again!

Is there an updated form at this time. The lactation rooms on Joseph 2 have restricted access. There also is no phone in the Francis 4 lactation rooms. I agree with previous posts about knowing which rooms have computers and/or phones would be helpful.

Thank you, @aliciasticha for the update on those rooms. The room location list has been updated just this week to reflect the 'conservation mode' of many of the buildings in Rochester. I have added those updates that you noticed as well and appreciate you bringing that up. I will ask the lactation committee about specifying which rooms do and do not have phones, although I cannot promise that they will have an up-to-date status on that at this time. I will definitely let you know if so. Thank you!
