Accommodation

Posted by Renni RP @rennyrp, Jun 29, 2018

Hi all! I will be joining the Mayo clinic Phoenix campus by the end of July and am searching for affordable accommodations nearby. I am looking for a longterm renting options since I might be there for around 8-9 months. Thank you in advance!

Here is a link you can start with @rennyrp. It is a link the school has provided for students that employees are finding valuable as well. https://www.mayo.edu/mayo-clinic-graduate-school-of-biomedical-sciences/campus-life/arizona/housing. Hopefully this gets you pointed in the right direction.

@sarahshtylla, @thamernik, @rjjensen11 - do you have any suggestions?

@andreacosta1988, you posted here back in April that you were looking for an apartment to rent - https://connect.employees.mayo.edu/discussion/home-apartment-hunting/?pg=1#comment-102000. Do you have any suggestions for @rennyrp?

I'm sorry, I haven't rented in Phoenix in over 15 years. There are apartment complexes around the hospital, but I cannot speak to them if they are reasonable or how management is with tenants, etc. When I looked for apartments 24 years ago (when moving from MN to AZ), I used an apartment guide (yes, it was a large paperback BOOK!), which is pretty much apartments.com now. I would suggest using that or contacting a realtor that could give ins and outs of neighborhoods, etc. Sorry I am not more help!

Hi Renni, Welcome to the Mayo Clinic Phoenix Campus! Prior to working at Mayo Clinic, I lived here: https://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/Arizona/Scottsdale/Desert-Horizon/1060/

(Trish...as you probably guessed Apartment Guide has moved online. 🙂 )

It's very close to the Phoenix Campus (you could even walk on a not-so-hot day). I'm not sure if they 8-9 month leases, but you could certainly ask! It's likely that no matter where you rent in Arizona, going month-to-month will cost you a bit more per month than signing a 12-month lease.

Thank you for the suggestion @sarahshtylla. Now that I think about it, leasing would be a better option.

Hi Renni. I just moved to the Scottsdale Campus and I found a really nice place using this website https://www.trulia.com/for_rent/Scottsdale,AZ/. I spent a couple of nights on a place using https://www.couchsurfing.com/ and then I actually moved in. I hope this is helpful for you. Best wishes!
