Calling all remodeler survivors!

Posted by @mbear, Fri, May 19 10:26am

Hi there,

I’m Melissa and fairly new to Rochester (less than a year). We’re about to embark on a large kitchen remodel. I’ve been hunting down some contractors to bid on the work, but have found it’s a bit of a challenge to get folks in Rochester.

Does anyone have advice on finding good home remodelers and/or warnings/watch out-for?

Thanks in advance?
melissa

How exciting! I can’t imagine all the decisions you have ahead of you … wall colors, finishes, flooring, etc. I’m out of Rochester, so am not much help, but a few colleagues have mentioned home projects, so I’ll see if I can bring someone who has experience in this area into the conversation.

@mbear, we built a house 7 years ago and while I realize you aren’t building, we loved our builder/contractor and he also does remodels. I am not sure of his capacity right now, but if you are looking for recommendations of great, quality work, I am happy to private message you his information. Good luck with the project! 🙂

I would much appreciate the PM. I’m new to Rochester, so weeding through the land of contractors has been a bit challenging!! Thank you Treasure!!

I’ve been trying to get someone to do a bathroom remodel in St. Charles and it has been very difficult. I’ve had contractors come and look then never get back to me. I’ve also made contact and they never get back to me.

We’ve done remodels and built our own home 10+ years ago now (we were the General Contractors, the electricians, tiles, painters, electricians, etc. etc.) Even finding sub contractors to help with the build was tricky and took some twists and turns fitting into their schedules. So we’ve always done as much work as possible ourselves to avoid these problems. Good Luck!

I grew up installing flooring and construction for my Father here in Rochester. I have not done it full time in a few years but I am still actively involved and do many smaller jobs for many people who need help. Just PM me here and I will help you if I can or I will get you names of good people who can help.
