Mayo Clinic’s Office of Non-Clinical Education Programs features a range of educational programs and experiences that prepare students for rewarding and successful careers in non-clinical healthcare professions. Please see the below tables for program locations and timelines.
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers a 10-week Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) experience for undergraduates wanting to build their skills as young scientists.
Summer Research Exploration Program (SREP)
The Mayo Clinic Department of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery's Summer Research Exploration Program is a paid internship for undergraduate students who are interested in careers in medicine, science or healthcare. The program supports undergraduate students who may have faced limited access to resources or opportunities commonly available to others pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
Clinical Rotations & Internships
Clinical rotations are programs in which students studying for a professional degree at an affiliated educational institution are selected to complete a portion of their education at Mayo Clinic. Internships are similar programs that are designed to enhance the skills of allied health students and learners but are not a required part of their formal curriculum.
Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP)
The Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) encourages individuals who hold a recent baccalaureate degree in a biomedically relevant area of study to pursue a research doctorate. The program focus is to strengthen the research skills and academic competitiveness of program participants in an effort to help meet the critical need for investigators in basic and translational research.
Nephrology and Urology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (nuSURF)
The Nephrology and Urology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (nuSURF) research training program exposes future biomedical and clinical scientists to investigative careers in academic nephrology, basic nephrology, and urologic sciences.
Clinical Research Internship Study Program
This internship is a paid 10-week summer program that gives college students an opportunity to participate in clinical research. This is a great way for you to test your inclination toward careers in medicine, health care, and science. You are placed with a faculty mentor to work on a clinical research project.
Graduate Research Education Program (GREP)
The Graduate Research Education Program (GREP) is a laboratory-based post-baccalaureate program lasting one to two years. Participants gain a mentored research experience aimed to increase their abilities and market competitiveness as research scholars and prepare for their next career steps.
