Any Musicians Out There?

Posted by Bobby Davis @bobbydavis, Sep 25, 2017

I'd love to know who all the musicians are out there. Please share what instrument(s) you play (or if you're a singer, electronic musician, etc.), whether you do any home recording, perform live, what style(s) music you play, etc. Whatever you're comfortable sharing. From total beginners to gigging pros, it would be great to know what kind of talent we have out there.

I'll go first, since I kicked-off the topic:

- Guitar (7-string)
- Primarily Metal and Progressive Metal (ironically, I love EDM too)
- I author a blog, where I post bi-weekly articles on guitar topics
- I used to perform live, but not any longer
- I have a home recording studio
- I occasionally (but rarely) still give guitar lessons

Okay, your turn!

Hey man, nice post! We actually have a lot in common.
- I play guitar, I have a regular 6 string Ibanez electric guitar, also I play bass and classical acoustic guitar
- Primarily I'm heavily into metal, but also ironically I like EDM as well! (check out Deep Space House on YouTube)
- I used to play live in a metal band on a regular basis for a few years, but haven't played live in the last couple years
- I have a home recording studio setup similar to yours too, and a side project I've been doing from home for a few years (sceadugengan.bandcamp.com)

Nice studio! That's almost exactly how I had things set up before I got the studio desk and wide monitor. Are you using Reaper as your DAW?

Yep!! I'm sure you're familiar with it... it's been a great DAW for my budget home studio 😀

Reaper's what I use as well. Been using it for a few years now and can't really imagine why I'd need to move to anything else.

Same here. I feel like if you take the time to figure it out, you can do almost anything you want with Reaper.

Hello - thanks for adding this topic.
I am predominantly a singer, although I learned to read music and taught myself to play piano as a child. Played percussion through junior high and 'cello through high school. Studied voice for >15 years and taught voice as well. Sang with a big metro choir, a couple cover bands, and an original band in Detroit area. Haven't reached out since I've been back in Roch due to time limitations, although would be fun to do something occasionally.

Hey, that's awesome! I played bass guitar for quite a few years, but have fallen off recently (having a child does that sometimes). I am primarily into metal, metalcore, progressive metal, hard rock, etc. I like anything from Dream Theater to Of Mice & Men (of which I am listening to the new album today). Good to see other metal fans out there!

Hey, Bobby,
Pete Avelar here. I'm a nurse in the Dept of Urology at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. I play drums & sing in a country band just about every weekend. I perform locally throughout the state of Az, but I've also gotten to perform in New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada & California. I've had the pleasure of opening shows for the Charlie Daniels Band, Craig Morgan, Kelli Pickler, Lee Bryce, The Randy Rogers Band, Easton Corbin, & Dierks Bentley to name a few. Occasionally, I get to perform at Gilley's at Treasure Island in Las Vegas. As you can tell, it's my passion. It's as rewarding as my 25 year tenure of nursing at Mayo Clinic.

Hi All,
I also posted in the Music section. We are looking for a venue near or in Rochester where we can listen to some nice jazz or easy listening type music. Does anyone have any suggestions?
