Role call, and welcome new members!

Posted by Sunni Hemingsen @sunnihemingsen, Apr 20, 2018

Happy Friday, everyone! I've noticed a number of new followers in the past week or so. Welcome! How about a role call to introduce ourselves?
Where you're working, where you're from, one question for others, and one surprising/interesting fact about yourself.

Hi! My name is Jana and I moved here from Austin Texas. I look forward to joining you all as soon as this feeling of overwhelming subsides! šŸ™‚

I'm at Mayo's Rochester location.

Welcome to Rochester and to Mayo, Jana! I was just having a conversation with some colleagues today about the overwhelm people feel as they anticipate coming to Mayo, and then even for the first number of months. We hope you are acclimating well.

If you have any tips you want to share with others that are moving here, there are some great questions in this same discussion group. For ease of getting to the other threads in the New Employee Connections group, click here:

Best of luck in your new role.

Hello!
My name is Hannah and I am a new hire at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in Florida! I'm starting as a Patient Appointment Specialist for the newly built hematology/oncology and neurology building starting in about a week. I am so very excited!
I was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida, so no need to move for the job šŸ™‚
my question is "what is your favorite thing about where you are geographically?"
My interesting fact would be that I used to own a beautiful norwegian forest cat (seriously look them up) and he weighed about 25 lbs; also my last name originates from czechoslovakia (Trubica)
It is a pleasure to meet ya'll!

Welcome, Hannah! What a nice way to transition into a new role - not having to move, and getting to work in a brand new building. Score! šŸ™‚

Thanks for your question - my favorite thing about where I live geographically (in Minnesota) is the variety of activities available throughout the year due to the change in seasons. While I don't LOVE winter, I do love doing different things and that is what the seasons provide us with here. šŸ™‚

Thanks for exposing me to the beautiful Norwegian forest cat. I hadn't heard of them before - stunning!

Enjoy getting to know Mayo and your new job in the coming weeks. Feel free to check out the other discussion groups to see if there are other topics that match your interests.

I have two dogs. I like to read and bowl. I'm nervous about the move and finding somewhere to live, but super excited for this new adventure!

ā€“ I have been at Mayo for 16 years, all in Rochester, and work in Employee Experience within Human Resources. I commute from Austin, about 50 miles from Rochester.
ā€“ I have officially lived in Minnesota longer than where I grew up, a small town in the NE corner of Montana.
ā€“ Question for others: What is your favorite hobby?
ā€“ Fact: I am a farmer's daughter and proud of it!

What I will miss most about Detroit is my family. We are very close and all live relatively close.

What I'm looking forward to most is exploring the city and finding fun things to do with my kids.
